Mississauga, Ontario - November 23, 2011 - Originally accepted in August 2011, the OHD REDON Protocol has been finalized as the official CSA protocol for respirator fit testing with Controlled Negative Pressure technology. This respirator fit test standard may be found in the Canadian Standards Association's Z94.4-11. With proven scientific accuracy and a short test time, there are no down sides to the OHD Quantifit Controlled Negative Pressure technology. This protocol allows workers to be more rigorously tested in a shorter amount of time!

The accepted REDON test protocol utilized by the OHD Quantifit respirator fit tester allows you to quickly assess respirator fit based on three mask donnings. During a fit test, the respirator inlets are capped with test adapters, and the inhalation valves are removed from the mask. With the test subject holding his or her breath for no more than ten seconds, the Quantifit then establishes and maintains a slight vacuum, or controlled negative pressure, inside the mask. Since the respirator inlets are sealed, all sources of leakage into the mask are through the face-to-facepiece seal. The volume of air drawn out of the mask by the Quantifit during this short period of time is equal to the leak rate into the mask through the face-to-facepiece seal. It’s that simple!

Unlike the particle counting method employed by other fit testers, there are no aerosol particles to worry about losing before they can physically migrate to the sampling probe and particle detector. lnstead, CNP technology gives you a direct measurement of respirator leakage quickly and accurately regardless of the source. The sampling biases related to aerosol concentration, lung deposition, and streamlining, are completely eliminated, giving you a greater degree of confidence in your fit test decisions.
