Importance of sanitizers
The CDC recommends hand washing is an effective way to protect against a pandemic via soap and water or use of sanitizers. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer could kill bacteria and viruses by denaturing the protective outer proteins of microbes and dissolving their membranes. Proper concentration of these alcohols are effective against killing germs and protecting the skin of those who apply it. Hand sanitizers must contain one of these approved active medicinal ingredients ethanol or isopropanol in the 60 - 80% concentration.
